  1. Freedom┐ v1.14a - The English demo version                  (5th July 1995)

  3. FREEDOM.APP  = Demo version
  4. REGISTER.APP = Application to create a registered version
  5.  
  6. First of all you should be aware of the following restrictions which apply 
  7. to the demo version:
  8.  
  9. -Only the first four characters in editable fields can be changed.
  10. -The filesize in the file selector and 'Object Info' dialog is replaced 
  11.  with the string '<Demo!>'
  12.  
  13. This means you can't easily create a new folder or file longer than four 
  14. characters although there are various tricks you can try (including rename 
  15. via the Info dialog)!
  16.  
  17. Quick Installation guide
  18. ========================
  19. -Add FFSEL.PRG (or FFSELR.PRG) to your Auto folder
  20. -Rename FREEDOM.APP to FREEDOM.ACC to install as an accessory
  21. -Load FREEDOM.CNF into any ASCII text editor (eg Everest) and read through 
  22.  the options. You need to set up the paths and files to suit your system 
  23.  otherwise you won't be able to try all Freedom┐'s features or get rid of 
  24.  the garish colours we deliberately set to encourage you to edit it.
  25. -Under a multitasking operating system Freedom┐ can be started as an 
  26.  application at any time:
  27.  -Under MagiC from the APPS folder
  28.  -Under MiNT in GEM.CNF
  29.  
  30. A few things you should try
  31. ---------------------------
  32. -Load FREEDOM.CNF into any ASCII text editor and peruse the options, 
  33.  everything can be configured using this file, the directory display, 
  34.  colours, font, icons, file masks etc.
  35. -Try left and right mouse mouse click and hold actions everywhere, all 
  36.  sorts of magical things happen!
  37. -Freedom┐ is designed to take advantage of the features available via an 
  38.  AV-Server or under a multitasking OS.
  39.  If you're single tasking try using Freedom┐ using either an alternative 
  40.  desktop such as Gemini/Thing (Shareware) or Ease (commercial). Using 
  41.  these desktops files can be Drag&Dropped between the desktop, desktop 
  42.  windows and Freedom┐. Try installing an editor, which supports the AV 
  43.  protocol, (eg Everest) onto the desktop then Drag&Drop several text files 
  44.  onto the editor icon, it really does work!
  45. -Open a second Freedom┐ selector (by right clicking on the Freedom┐ logo) 
  46.  then try Drag&Drop operations between the two selectors!
  47. -Set up several search operations calling the search dialog, using 
  48.  [Control]+[Shift]+F, start one, then the others in turn, when they're all 
  49.  whirring away close Freedom┐ and they carry on working!
  50. -If you have a fast machine start a copy/move operation then continue 
  51.  working!
  52. -Be sure to try the 'Type' sort option...

  55. So why bother with these annoying restrictions?
  56. -----------------------------------------------
  57. These minor limitations enable everyone to test ALL the features in 
  58. Freedom┐ (non modality, Drag&Drop, icons, configurable, long filename 
  59. support, intuitive operation etc. etc...) without giving away months of 
  60. long hard work for nothing!

  62. 30,-DM (£15 in the UK) is a fair amount and look forward to receiving your 
  63. contribution to assure the continued development of Freedom┐.

  65. How to use REGISTER.APP
  66. -----------------------
  67. If you received your registration details by Email you can cut and save 
  68. the NAME:, STRASSE:, PLATZ: and CODE: fields to a file called FREEDOM.REG. 
  69. If you place this file in the same directory as REGISTER.APP and run 
  70. REGISTER.APP it should pick up your key details automatically.

  72. 1) Create FREEDOM.REG and place in same directory as REGISTER.APP
  73. 2) Check you have at least 600Kb free memory
  74. 3) Run REGISTER.APP
  75. 4) If your details don't appear here, enter them manually
  76. 5) Select the destination directory to place your registered copy.
  77. 6) A personalised copy encrypted with your details is created.

  79. REGISTER.APP does not check the key details are correct. If you have 
  80. entered incorrect details your computer will normally hang. In any event 
  81. perform a cold boot before trying again! Following a successful 
  82. registration a short piece of music is played so if your computer is 
  83. equipped to handle DMA sound crank up the volume :-)
